Child Find & Early Support Resources

At Thalia's Garden Preschool, we want every child to have the best start possible. Some children benefit from extra support in areas like speech and language, motor skills, or social-emotional development.

If you have any concerns about your child’s development—or if you just want peace of mind—the Child Find program through your local school district offers free screenings and evaluations for children ages 3–5. These screenings can help determine whether your child would benefit from services such as:

  • Speech and language therapy (articulation, expressive/receptive language)

  • Occupational therapy (fine motor skills, sensory support, self-help skills)

  • Physical therapy (gross motor skills, balance, coordination)

  • Behavioral or social-emotional support

Getting this information before preschool enrollment can be so helpful. It allows us to:

What Child Find Screens For

During a Child Find screening, specialists look at a range of developmental areas to make sure your child is on track. Screenings are play-based and designed to be comfortable for young children.

Here’s who you might meet and what they check:

Hearing → Audiologist

Vision → School Nurse

Speech & Language → Speech-Language Pathologist

Learning/Thinking Skills→ School Psychologist

Fine Motor Skills (using hands, drawing, grasping) → Occupational Therapist

Gross Motor Skills (runing, climbing, balance) → Physical Therapist

Self-Help & Social/Behavior Skills → Checklist completed by parent, scored by School Psychologist

👉 These screenings help identify strengths and any areas where your child may benefit from extra support—whether that’s speech therapy, occupational therapy, or other services.
